Description of Job:

  • Employee will work 7.0 hours per day at Level 3 pay following the school calendar

  • Employee will be expected to work with students ages 3 years - 22 years in all buildings and travel between buildings during the work day

  • Employee will be expected to follow multiple schedules under the direction of (currently) four district Speech-Language Pathologists and Director of Special Services

  • Employee must demonstrate flexibility in providing services to students and make appropriate adjustments quickly when a student is absent to provide make up sessions for other students

  • Employee must follow treatment plans as directed by the different SLPs, gather necessary materials, implement treatment independently, document every therapy session and meet documentation criteria required to submit for Medicaid billing.

Must meet the following prerequisites before applying:

  • Minimum of 2 years experience working under the direction and supervision of an SLP to provide speech therapy or intervention to students.

  • Knowledgeable about articulation, receptive language, expressive language, social communication and AAC.

  • Ability to hear articulation errors and have experience in how to teach correct tongue placement for sounds.

  • Experience and efficient use of all software utilized by the SLPs: SLPtoolkit; WAMR; IEPonline

  • Experience with iPADs and the ability to troubleshoot issues; as well as knowledgeable about AAC software (TD Snap) and be able to model language for students and provide tips to staff on how to use the software

  • Physical capability to stoop, crouch, crawl, bend, kneel, and walk quickly through hallways and between buildings, escort students to and from groups every 15-30 minutes, walk on uneven surfaces, and maintain student safety

Duties and Expectations of Employee:

  • Assist SLPs in the preparation of therapy materials, including making copies, creating visual schedules and making visual supports

  • Assist students in dealing with conflict, expressing themselves in appropriate ways, and improving their behavior

  • Maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regular work hours (as missed therapy sessions are difficult to make up)

  • Professionally interact with students, staff, and public

  • Efficient use of computers and related technologies for the purpose of daily note entry into 3 different therapist's platforms (SLP Toolkit); must be proficient managing three logins/passwords to access software; using technology for therapy materials, and entering Medicaid billings in a timely manner

  • Implement therapy activities as outlined by the SLP during individual or small group sessions. Collect data adequately. Provide prompts and cues to students during therapy activities. Reinforce target behaviors and provide positive feedback. Adjust difficulty level of lesson to meet students needs when necessary. Provide appropriate accommodations to students.

  • Communicate clearly with the SLP regarding student progress and any concerns. Communicate with teachers and other school staff to coordinate therapy with classroom instruction, encourage functional communication carryover into other school environments.

Other Important Considerations:

A speech-language paraprofessional always works under the direct supervision of a licensed SLP and must follow their instructions and guidelines. Paraprofessionals cannot independently diagnose speech or language disorders or interpret assessment results.

Seniority rights will be exercised according to Article X, Section 10.5 of the P.S.E. Negotiated Agreement.

Terms of Employment:

This position is for the duration this school year only with salary starting at $23.74 per hour for approximately 7.0 hours per day with

benefits that include Healthcare benefits (medical insurance, vision insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, and disability insurance), retirement benefits, 12 days of sick leave accruals and 2 days of personal leave per year. FLSA: NON-EXEMPT

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the classified collective bargaining agreement.
