Clinical Speech Pathologist Duties and Responsibilities
  • Independently maintain a clinical caseload in designated clinical cluster areas.
  • Provide evidence-based evaluation and treatment to diverse, medically complex patient populations.
  • Deliver high-quality services tailored to patient needs, considering age, social, cultural, educational, and vocational backgrounds.
  • Educate patients, families, and professionals on communication and/or swallowing disorders through written and/or verbal communication.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and within designated timeframes, including reports, billing, and professional education databases.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and Division colleagues to promote best practices in patient care.
  • Participate in peer review processes and performance improvement initiatives under the supervision of the Clinical Coordinator.
  • Stay current in clinical practice through continuing education, literature review, and professional development.
  • Organize daily schedule to prioritize responsibilities, including meetings and tasks, without negatively impacting patient care or productivity.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of patient care and Division policies.
  • Keep Clinical Coordinator informed of activities, issues, and accomplishments.
  • Function independently, taking ownership of responsibilities and accountability for outcomes.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and ensure quality care in all interactions.
  • Respond promptly to communications (e.g., email, pages, phone messages).
  • Use technology effectively to meet job requirements.
  • Meet productivity standards and complete clinical privileges in alignment with job responsibilities and personal development plans.
  • Perform tasks as directed to support Division goals and needs.
  • Meet all PEP expectations and adhere to Division policies and procedures.
  • Comply with ASHA, state licensure board, and Division clinical practice guidelines.
Senior Clinician Duties and Responsibilities

In addition to the responsibilities of a Clinical Speech Pathologist, a Senior Clinician is also responsible for:

  • Influencing clinical practice through integration of current literature, conference knowledge, and advanced practices under the direction of the Clinical Coordinator.
  • Serving as a clinical resource to colleagues and other healthcare professionals.
  • Assisting the Clinical Coordinator in fostering collaboration and teamwork within and outside DUHS.
  • Providing educational opportunities related to clinical practice, including in-services, external presentations, lunch-and-learns, or support groups, with input from the Clinical Coordinator.
  • Obtaining specialized training or certification.
  • Mentoring new staff, clinical fellows, students, or observers when requested.
  • Offering student observation opportunities when requested.
  • Assisting in training clinical staff in new or advanced skills under the direction of the Clinical Coordinator.
  • Supporting new staff credentialing and orientation in specified clinical areas under the direction of the Clinical Coordinator.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Strong written communication skills for reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Effective verbal communication and presentation skills for diverse audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including data collection, analysis, and drawing valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret complex technical instructions and manage abstract and concrete variables.
Minimum Qualifications Education
  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited university program.
Experience
  • Previous experience in a medical setting preferred; other relevant clinical experience will be considered.
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) issued by ASHA.
  • North Carolina License in Speech-Language Pathology issued by the NC Board of Examiners for Speech and Language Pathologists and Audiologists.
  • Temporary License in Speech-Language Pathology (if applicable) issued by the same board.
