About the Role:
The Occupational Therapist Assistant (OTA) working in a SNF plays a vital role in supporting the rehabilitation and recovery of patients within a skilled nursing facility (SNF) setting. This position involves working closely under the supervision of licensed occupational therapists to implement treatment plans that enhance patients' ability to perform daily living activities and improve their overall quality of life. The OTA will engage with patients who have a variety of physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges, helping them regain independence through therapeutic exercises and adaptive techniques. The role requires compassionate communication with patients and interdisciplinary collaboration with healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care. Ultimately, the OTA contributes significantly to the patients' functional progress and successful reintegration into their home or community environments.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
- Current and valid state licensure or certification as an Occupational Therapist Assistant in Texas.
- Basic life support (BLS) certification.
- Strong understanding of rehabilitation principles and patient care within a skilled nursing facility.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a skilled nursing facility or long-term care setting.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems used in rehabilitation documentation.
- Additional certifications related to geriatric care or neurological rehabilitation.
- Demonstrated skills in patient education and adaptive equipment training.
- Bilingual abilities to support diverse patient populations.
Responsibilities:
- Assist occupational therapists in delivering individualized treatment plans tailored to patient needs within the SNF environment.
- Conduct therapeutic activities and exercises designed to improve patients' motor skills, coordination, and cognitive functions.
- Monitor and document patient progress, reporting any changes or concerns to the supervising occupational therapist.
- Educate patients and their families on therapeutic techniques and adaptive equipment to support continued recovery outside of therapy sessions.
- Collaborate with nursing staff, physical therapists, and other healthcare team members to coordinate patient care and optimize rehabilitation outcomes.
