Speech Pathologist - Pediatric Therapy - Part-Time

The Speech Pathologist evaluates patients' speech, language, cognitive, feeding, swallowing, and oral motor competencies in order to provide an effective plan for therapeutic intervention that meets patients' needs. Confers with patients and family members regarding their disability and prognosis and communicates with members of the rehabilitative team on treatment plans. Assists radiologists in performing modified barium swallow studies, participates in educational and continuous quality improvement programs, performs other duties as assigned by department management according to the policies and procedures and the mission of Woman's Hospital. Performance of duties will be in accordance with the Code of Ethics as set forth by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Requirements: Master's degree in speech/language pathology from an accredited college or university Louisiana state licensure Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech/Language Pathology by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Experience treating communication and infant feeding disorders. Responsibilities: Identifies patient needs and initiates plan of care in a timely manner. Recommends, counsels, and assists in the development of a treatment plan with physicians, parents, patients, educators, and other health professionals adhering to patient's rights issues. Reports test results in a completed evaluation form in 48 hours or less utilizing a concise reporting format. Sends physician letter explaining results and outlining treatment plan. Compiles data and statistical information for program development and accountability records. Understands developmental speech and motor milestones. Demonstrates understanding of pre-term infant behavior and development and abnormal vs normal speech development. Performs therapeutic procedures appropriately and handles child safety throughout treatment. Understands infant oral motor development, anatomy, and feeding skills. Understands interrelationship of anatomical structure, medical status, and development factors. Any other duties as assigned by Woman's Hospital.
