Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversees Therapeutic Recreation Specialists

Essential Functions/Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Lead activities in the Chateau, Abbey, and Villa on a weekly basis when the assigned Therapeutic Recreation Specialist is not scheduled.
  • In coordination with the SIPSE & Wellness Manager and Abbey Program Manager, develop and plan a well-rounded monthly schedule of recreational activities for Abbey residents that address and meet the needs of varying functional levels.
  • Promote activity participation using resident calendars, newsletters, and mailings to family members to ensure maximum participation of residents.
  • In coordination with the SIPSE & Wellness Manager, review all Health Center activity calendars to ensure the five dimensions of Montereau's SIPSE program are incorporated.
  • Provide support to the therapeutic recreation team by attending outings and leading specific events to ensure successful delivery of activity programs and large group parties, as appropriate.
  • Conduct MDS assessments and monthly summaries for all long-term care residents in a timely manner. Communicate resident needs and preferences to all team members involved in preparing and implementing quarterly care plans to provide maximum benefit for each resident.
  • Conduct MDS assessments for all individuals receiving skilled nursing services in a timely manner in order to complete the initial resident care plan. Update the assessments quarterly and annually to monitor for significant changes in residents' condition.
  • Participate in Care Conferences to assure that residents' physical and emotional factors are considered in their care plan and communicated to family members as appropriate. Consult, as needed, on skilled residents.
  • In coordination with the Music Therapist, organize and attend music therapy activities.

Required Skills/Abilities/Competencies:

  • Strong verbal communication skills to effectively address issues and concerns with diverse populations while showing empathy and compassion
  • Ability to effectively interact with a diverse leadership team, staff, residents, and third-party associates, including vendors, providers, and visitors
  • Ability to effectively manage sensitive and confidential communications and information, while maintaining a high level of poise, tact, and diplomacy
  • Intermediate computer competency and ability to use and learn a variety of software programs, specifically Microsoft Office programs and electronic health record programs; ability to operate electronic audio-visual equipment

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of previous experience working with an older adult population or in the healthcare field is preferred
  • Previous experience in coordinating small and large group activities is required
  • Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation or other related field; or an equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training is required
  • Oklahoma Activity and Social Services Directors training program is recommended
  • CPR certification is required.
  • Valid state driver license is required.
  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • An extensive amount of standing, walking, kneeling, and bending at the waist, with a moderate amount of sitting, and reaching above the head and shoulders.
  • Ability to routinely lift and push up to 25 pounds.
  • Frequent use of ordinary communication, including normal levels of hearing and vision.
  • Ability to use a computer or other office equipment for an extensive period of time.
  • Ability to work extended hours, as required.
  • This position also includes frequent trips outside and away from the primary facility to support activities and events offsite.
