What You’ll Do in This Role:

Make a meaningful difference every day! We’re seeking a Recreational Therapist to coordinate, plan, and lead engaging therapeutic and recreational activities for program participants. In this role, you’ll use your advanced knowledge of recreational therapy to design experiences that are tailored to everyone’s needs, preferences, and abilities, helping them thrive physically, cognitively, and emotionally.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct initial and scheduled reassessments of participants, ensuring timely completion before team conferences.
  • Communicate changes in participant condition to the Interdisciplinary Team.
  • Develop and implement individualized therapeutic programs as part of each plan of care, including recreational and social activities.
  • Supervise and manage the Activity Program, including group sessions, individual activities, community outings, and special events.
  • Coordinate with skilled nursing and assisted living facilities to support therapeutic needs.
  • Plan and facilitate dementia-friendly activities.
  • Create and maintain a monthly calendar of events.
  • Actively participate in Interdisciplinary Team meetings and care planning.
  • Serve as a resource for staff and manage volunteer engagement.
  • Foster a warm, welcoming, and socially supportive environment.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement (QI) processes.
  • Collaborate with community resources to enhance program offerings.
  • Complete Participant Care Aide (PCA) training and assist with activities of daily living (ADL) as needed.
  • Provide comfort and support in the day center, home, and community settings.
  • Meet PACE of Southwest Michigan’s competency standards before working independently.

What You’ll Need:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Therapy, or a related field focused on special populations.
  • CPR certification or willingness to obtain .
  • Understanding recreational therapy techniques for older adults.
  • Able to adjust activities to meet different physical, mental, and emotional needs.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Willing and able to travel between St. Joseph, MI and Niles, MI.

Preferred:

  • At least 2 years of experience running social or recreational programs for older adults in the last 5 years.
  • Experience creating and leading recreation programs for seniors.
