Employment Type: Part time Shift: Rotating Shift Description: The Recreational Therapist evaluates patient skills and needs, determines treatment objectives, and recommends goals/treatment plan to the interdisciplinary team via use of therapeutic use of self, activity modalities and the environment. What you will need as a Recreational Therapist: Graduate of an accredited institution with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Recreational Therapy. Maintains current certification in Recreation Therapy from the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC). One year Mental Health experience preferred. What you will do as a Recreational Therapist: Identifies problems and recommends goals, objectives and interventions used to develop the treatment plan. Formulates an individualized treatment plan for patient based on information collected on assessments, evaluations, and observation, selecting appropriate treatment techniques and equipment to meet needs of the patient. Attends interdisciplinary team conferences to assist in developing a program of treatment; reports patient progress and behaviors; recommends community supports. Plan and implement treatment individually or in group to meet treatment objectives as identified in an individual's treatment plan. Performs documentation for each (group) session which is timely, accurate, and concise. Demonstrates ability to apply clinical and academic knowledge into practice. Reassess treatment plans and modifying/adapting/upgrading within the capabilities of patient in order to achieve the highest level of functioning. Maintains equipment and supplies in safe, functional condition; recommends purchase of equipment and supplies. Maintains confidentiality. Develops and maintains effective communication with all members of the health care team. Demonstrates the ability to utilize the order of communication system. Maintains a professional work environment, free of social discussions, responding to the needs of the customer, whether patient/family or co-workers. Demonstrates a positive, friendly, respectful demeanor to the customer that reduces tress, improves expectations, and answers questions. Observes the privacy and confidentiality of patient, family, employees or co-workers. Follows hospital policies and procedure within the scope of practice. Adheres to safety and legal requirements established by the hospital with emphasis on those pertinent to the unit. Participates in unit hospital Quality Improvement projects and assist with collection of data if requested to do so. Demonstrates an awareness and knowledge of the patient bill of rights. Maintains current competency and responds to new clinical demands. Attends education programs/RT conferences Demonstrates accountability for own standard of practice. Demonstrates ability to utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Complies with the St. Mary mercy Hospital Time and Attendance policies. Serves on committees, task forces, workgroups on a voluntary and appointed basis at the department and hospital level.
