CLINICAL AUDIOLOGIST: Special Education/Student Services
The Clinical Audiologist will be part of an interdisciplinary team that assists in providing a meaningful education program designed to meet each student's individual needs. This position is responsible for conducting audiological assessments, identifying and diagnosing audiological needs, assess and evaluate the degree of hearing impairment,and making recommendations to the IEP team for hearing assistive technology. The Clinical Audiologist will work with IEP team members in the instruction and management of individual and classroom amplification and assistive listening devices. The Clinical Audiologist will act as a liaison with community agen cies; 0 and monitor condition of equipment. The position is under the general supervision of the special education and student services administrators. The position may supervise instructional aids and other relevant staff as assigned.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
1. Conduct audiological assessments and provide instruction and management of individual and classroom amplification and assistive listening devices.
2. Interpret audiograms and make appropriate amplification and referral recommendations.
3. Assess student hearing abilities utilizing a variety of assessment techniques; evaluate and interpret the range and degree of impairment.
4. Interpret and write results of assessment and testing and make recommendations reports for IEP or 504 teams.
5. Use new and evidence based practices, strategies and materials to enhance the educational process of deaf and hard of hearing students.
6. Participate in the development of Individualized Education Programs {IEP) and 504 Plans, to explain the type and degree of hearing loss and make recommendations for hearing assistive technology to the IEP team.
7. Serve as a resource to IEP and 504 teams regarding educational considerations in difficult cases as they relate to hearing disorders, cochlear implants, central auditory processing disorders, and auditory skill development.
8. Consult with administrators, staff, parents, and students in modifying regular education programs for students.
9. Oversee the maintenance of special equipment, request calibration and test equipment, repair, replace, or request service of equipment; maintain inventory of special audiological equipment and supplies.
10. Schedule appointments for assessments and administration of tests and gather relevant information from parents and files.
11. Maintain student reports and logs in a confidential manner.
12. Attend job-related meetings, professional development and activities specified by special education or student services administrators.
13. Performs other related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE of:
• Diagnostic techniques, equipment, methods and theories in assessing and identifying hearing impaired students; current educational learning theories; operational mechanics of amplification equipment and materials; calibration techniques needed for specialized equipment; vendors and repair services.
ABILITY to:
• Develop effective interpersonal skills and consult with parents, children and staff; understand and utilize appropriate evaluation instruments; be responsive to needs and concerns of parents and to encourage their participation in their child's program; communicate clearly and concisely in English, both orally and in writing; work independently with little direction; meet demanding schedules and timelines; serve as a resource to IEP team and 504 teams; explain and communicate technical data and information to lay people; identify and recognize auditory equipment malfunctions; travel between schools.
EDUCATION: Master's Degree from an accredited institution.
CERTIFICATES/CREDENTIALS/LICENSES:
• Possess a valid California Clinical Rehabilitative Services or Credential authorizing audiology, or
• Possess an Audiology License issued by the California Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board is preferred
• Valid California Driver's License
