Speech and Language Pathologist Portage Public Schools - TBD Full-Time Per PEA Contract 2025-26 School Year Job Summary: The Speech and Language Pathologist primarily responsible for speech and language services for students with communication disorders between the ages of 3 through 18. This includes evaluation of students with suspected or identified communication disorders, and the development, management, and coordination of speech and language services. The speech and language therapist has the expertise to make decisions regarding the student's communication services, but may not be the person to make all the decisions or provide all the services to eligible students with disabilities. Decisions regarding a student are based on the multidisciplinary team's evaluation and the recommendation of the IEP team. Speech and language therapists are required to perform duties other than direct services that are essential to the appropriate management of each student. Responsibilities: In addition to requirements outlined in the Educational Supports and Intervention Code and in this district's Plan for the Delivery of Educational Supports and Intervention Programs and Services, the duties of the Speech and Language Pathologist may include, but are not limited to, the following: Identify and diagnose speech and language impairments of eligible persons in the assigned service area Process referrals from appropriate sources Provide diagnostic information to committees involved in the placement of students Make appropriate referrals when additional services within the district appear necessary On a continuous basis, provide information concerning speech and language to other professionals and to parents Provide appropriate in-service education to school personnel in the area of service to the speech and language impaired Establish an appropriate caseload in the assigned service area Provide direct/indirect services to students consistent with current rules and regulations Provide service to eligible pre-school children not assigned to another source of service Attempt to confer, as often as necessary, with the parents of the students being served Maintain an individual record folder on every student being served which includes appropriate and necessary information Develop an appropriate schedule Complete required forms pursuant to the Educational Supports and Intervention code, such as transfers, IEPs, METs and three- year re-evaluations within the appropriate time frame Transport materials and testing kits from building to building Perform oral-motor examinations when appropriate Order appropriate materials and testing kits to meet the needs of students on the caseload Collaborate with other professional team members regarding student performance and progress Participating in building level student support teams, staff meetings and part of the school improvement process, as well as required professional development Provide own transportation between therapy locations and meetings Performs other duties as assigned Regular and consistent attendance Must have knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures contained in the Portage Public Schools Employee Handbook. Qualifications Master's degree or higher, including all courses required to meet credential requirements License as a Speech-Language Pathologist in Michigan American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) Card Certificate of Clinical Competency or eligibility for Clinical Fellowship year Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record Minimum 2 to 5 years' experience Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with district staff and the public Ability to assume responsibility, display initiative, and exercise good judgment Proficient computer and document skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
