Summary:

Inpatient - 40 hrs/wk - Day shift with rotation on weekends and holidays

Provides a wide range of speech, language, oral-motor and feeding evaluations and interventions with patients from birth through 21 years of age.

  • Evaluation and treatment of feeding and swallowing disorders in infants and children

  • Cognitive-communication assessments and interventions for a wide range of diagnoses

  • Use of Passy Muir Valve (PMV) in tracheostomy/ventilator-dependent populations

  • Participation in instrumental swallowing assessments including videofluoroscopic swallow studies (VFSS) and/or fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES)

  • Close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, dietitians, and other rehab professionals

Audiology & Speech Pathology - 1 year Pediatric, Hospital or Rehabilitation experience

Description

  1. Performs speech/language/swallowing evaluations and screenings.

  2. Reviews medical records and interviews parent/caregiver/ and other professionals to obtain pertinent health information and relevant patient histories prior to each evaluation to determine a developmentally appropriate protocol.

  3. Determines evaluation goals and tailors test battery to specific needs of individual patients within the comprehensive scope of practice assigned, including both formal and informal measures.

  4. Interprets and synthesizes test results, history and functional observation to form a diagnostic impression and formulates a comprehensive and specific recommendation based on the goals functional outcomes of patient.

  5. Implements a specific plan of action with measurable goals leading to improved functional outcomes, integrating speech/language (or feeding/swallowing) goals into overall plan of care for patient.

  6. Selects and develops intervention materials for treatment of communication and related disorders, incorporating goals and education for the patient's family and significant others into the ongoing treatment plan to maximize progress; adapting procedures, strategies, and materials to meet patient's individual needs.

  7. Documents patient contacts for both in-patient and out-patient services using chart notes, departmental, and hospital approved forms, and maintains current treatment plans and goals in the hospital charts, in addition to departmental charts.

  8. Maintains patient and billing records and completes any required third party payer forms according to guidelines.

  9. Produces evaluation reports and documents patient, family and professional understanding regarding carryover plan and recommendations prior to discharge.

  10. Other duties as assigned.
