Occupational Therapist - Independent Contractor
We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Occupational Therapist to join our team as an Independent Contractor in a Community Integration/Home Health setting. This position supports adults with developmental disabilities, the majority of whom have intellectual disabilities, by promoting independence, safety, and participation in meaningful daily and community activities.
The ideal candidate is patient, creative, organized, and passionate about person-centered care and advocacy. Therapists with experience in two or more settings are preferred; however, candidates who demonstrate empathy, collaboration, and strong clinical judgment are encouraged to apply. Pay is competitive and will depend on your experience, and will be discussed during the interview!!
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement individualized occupational therapy programs focused on improving independence, safety, and participation in activities of daily living and meaningful community activitiesAssess clients' functional abilities and identify strategies to support success in home and community settingsProvide therapeutic interventions to improve fine motor skills, sensory processing, adaptive functioning, self-care, and overall quality of lifeEvaluate the effectiveness of treatment interventions and communicate client progress with the interdisciplinary teamMaintain accurate and timely documentation of therapy services providedCollaborate with caregivers, support staff, families, and other professionals to ensure comprehensive, person-centered careAssess and recommend adaptive equipment, environmental modifications, and durable medical equipment (DME) as appropriatePractice according to the Occupational Therapist Practice Act, New Mexico Developmental Disabilities Waiver Standards, and the Agency Handbook
Qualifications
Current New Mexico Occupational Therapist license requiredPrevious experience in occupational therapy, rehabilitation, community integration, or related field preferredExperience working with individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities is a plusStrong understanding of adaptive strategies and functional skill developmentAbility to manage physical workload and work independently in community-based settingsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong organizational, problem-solving, and leadership abilitiesExperience with adaptive equipment and durable medical equipment assessment preferred
