Job Goal: We are seeking a highly skilled and knowledgeable Itinerant Speech and Language Pathologist to serve preschool students, teachers, and families in community-based early education and care programs as part of the Somerville Partnership for Young Children (SPYC).

As part of this effort to advance high-quality programming, the Itinerant Speech and Language Pathologist will work directly with early education classrooms across the city to ensure consistency and alignment of practices to meet the developmental needs of children. This position will assist individual children directly and provide consultation to teachers and directors on language development and specific students' language/IEP needs.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Massachusetts license for Speech and Language Hearing Disorders
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience with school-aged children preferred
  • Master degree preferred
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
  • Experience with the process of Screening, assessing, and evaluating students to determine eligibility for speech services
  • Experience developing individual plans and goals for each student based on need and determination of services
  • Demonstrated ability to form and maintain strong professional relationships with district staff and parents

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual services to children with speech and/or language disabilities.
  • Help develop individual plans and goals for each student based on need and determination of services.
  • Provide consultation to classroom teachers and/or parents on the development of language.
  • Assist teachers in developing language-based classroom activities
  • Prepare diagnostic reports
  • Serve as a member of a team that will develop individual education programs.
  • Work directly with other members of the Somerville Partnership for Young Children itinerant team to foster inclusion.
  • Maintain student confidentiality in thorough and secure record-keeping following FERPA, IDEA, and HIPPA guidelines when needed
  • Participate in all meetings as required by the school, district, or laws, to address student need
  • Other such duties as assigned by the Director of Early Education and Care and/or Director of Special Education, Nursing, and Health Services.

Terms of Employment:

  • Per the Somerville Educators Union, Unit A, collective bargaining agreement
  • Full-time, multiple locations, non-standard hours
  • 209 Work Days

Position Type:

This is a grant-funded, temporary position (eligible for benefits). Funded by the Commonwealth Preschool Partnership Initiative grant.
