What you'll do at OhioMHAS:
This position focuses on supporting adults in a residential setting to develop essential independent living and social skills. The staff member will work directly with assigned consumers, implementing personal and behavior plans and helping with skills such as hygiene, medication management, food preparation, budgeting, and social interactions. The role involves maintaining a safe and supportive environment, de-escalating crises, modeling professional behavior, and transporting consumers to appointments as necessary. Staff will work closely with team members to develop individualized service plans, document progress, and maintain the facility's cleanliness, contributing to a structured and supportive community. Additional duties include:
Participates directly in Occupational Therapy (O.T.) treatment program by conducting assessments & development of treatment plans: obtains pertinent data from written records, interviews with patients & others to obtain required data; performs assessments using established procedures; formulates goals & treatment plans for remediation of deficits; reassesses treatment goals & treatment plans to reflect changes in patient performance; observes & reports patient performance verbally &/or in writing using established departmental procedures; provides therapeutic educational groups and ensures that patients attend groups as assigned.
Uses knowledge & skill of various occupational treatment techniques to consult with patients, Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) and other health care professionals: provides COTA with technical advice for the treatment of specific disabilities, provides examples of technique and equipment or instruction in the fabrication or methods; provides consultation in preparation of treatment plans & procedures for treatment & in making program evaluations & assessment of goals; makes treatment related recommendations to physicians or other personnel; attends treatment program planning meetings as apply to specific patient programs; observes departmental/hospital rules & procedures; adheres to standard safety practices for self & staff & patients; demonstrates personal & professional code of ethics; participates in developing policies & procedures.
Performs miscellaneous related duties: requisitions supplies & equipment; keeps routine records; maintains (e.g., cleans, oils, etc.) O.T. equipment; checks & monitors safety & infection control procedures; attends & participates in mandated in services; attends staff meetings, etc.
Continuously and proactively assesses environmental situations, organization policies and procedures, and staff, patient and visitor behavior for situations that could pose risks to patients, staff, or visitors, and reports them appropriately.
This is an hourly position covered by the Ohio Health Care SEIU/1199 bargaining unit, with a pay range of 13 on the Ohio Health Care SEIU/1199 Pay Range Schedule. Normal working hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm. This position is located within Appalachian Behavioral Healthcare at 100 Hospital Drive, Athens, Ohio 45701.
Unless required by any applicable union contract and/or requirements of the Ohio Revised Code, the selected candidate will begin at Step 1 of the pay range schedule listed above, with an opportunity for pay increase after six months of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.
Additional Salary / Appointment Information:
- Starting rate is $34.96 per hour
- Must be able to complete a 2-week (business days Monday-Friday) full time orientation
- May work weekends and holidays; may be exposed to communicable diseases and unpredictable patient behavior
- Training and development required to remain in the classification after employment
Current State of Ohio Occupational Therapist License pursuant to Section 4755.02 of Revised Code.
