Job Description / Essential Elements:

The Speech Therapist responsibilities include, but are not limited to providing speech correction services to students with speech defects and language disorders and providing a functional educational program for assigned Special Education students. The selected candidate will be required to evaluate the effects of a speech disorder upon the student's educational achievement and personal adjustment; to consult with teachers; to diagnose speech problems and make the appropriate placements; to work with students to correct or minimize their speech or other disorder. The selected candidate will be required to teach assigned students in a special day class; to assist the principal and staff in selecting and integrating students transferring to regular classrooms; to assist students in assessing abilities and establishing goals; to teach functional skills which may not normally be taught in the regular classroom; to help parents to understand and accept student's problems; to provide continual supervision on an on call basis for assigned students elsewhere in the school; and to attend all IEP meetings of assigned students and others as directed by the Administrator. The selected candidate will be required to evaluate and make periodic reports on personal adjustment and educational progress of each student to parents and staff; to provide information and counseling; to provide information on community services available; and to perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Clinical Rehabilitation Services credential. Special Day Class authorization preferred.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in speech therapy.

Better than average recommendations from other professionals regarding personal characteristics, scholastic attainment, and performance in the field of speech pathology.

Effective communication skills both oral and written.

Demonstrates commitment to professional growth, development, and motivation.
