Occupational Therapist Jobs in Tuscaloosa, AL

Occupational Therapists (OTs) play a pivotal role in the therapy industry by helping individuals across all ages to participate in the activities and tasks they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday tasks (occupations). These professionals work with people who have physical, sensory, or cognitive disabilities, and they develop individualized plans to improve their clients' ability to perform daily activities, prevent or minimize disability, and promote overall health and wellness. OTs may work in a variety of settings, such as hospitals, rehabilitation centers, schools, clients' homes, or in corporate wellness programs.

Prior to becoming an Occupational Therapist, individuals may serve in roles such as a Rehab Aide, Occupational Therapy Assistant, or even a Pediatric Occupational Therapy Aide to gain relevant experience in the field. To become a successful OT, one should possess excellent interpersonal skills, physical stamina, patience, and creativity. They should also possess strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills to assess patients' needs and create appropriate treatment plans. They must have a master's degree from an accredited occupational therapy program and pass a national certification examination to become a certified Occupational Therapist. Some states may also require additional licensing.
